NEW LAWYERS’ SEMINAR AND FEDERAL COURT SWEARING-IN SCHEDULED FOR DECEMBER 8 AND 9, 2015

Congratulations on passing the February Michigan Bar Examination!
We hope that you will be able to join us at the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse, on December 8 and 9, 2015, for the annual Seminar for New Lawyers, a “nuts and bolts” how-to-do-it approach to practice in federal and state courts which is co-sponsored by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and the Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.
The seminar is designed to assist recent law graduates in understanding the fundamental procedures followed in local courts. It is not a prerequisite for an individual to be admitted to practice in the courts, but rather is a voluntary educational program which law school graduates are encouraged to attend. Experienced attorneys wishing to attend the seminar are welcome.
The seminar begins at 8:30 a.m. on December 8, 2015, with registration and presentations on federal courts. The program continues on December 9th with state court practice. In prior years, the well-qualified Seminar faculty has been composed of practicing attorneys, court personnel and numerous judges, each of them knowledgeable in the areas upon which they speak. This year will be no different. A copy of last year’s agendae are attached as a sample of our programming.
We’ve been able to hold the seminar price to only $100.00 for both days with your first year of Chapter membership as a complimentary bonus. Admission also includes a luncheon on December 9th (usually addressed by the Chief Judge or the Chief Judge Pro Tem of the Wayne County Circuit Court; but, on occasion, by Justice Mary Beth Kelly of the Michigan Supreme Court – an NLS graduate). You also receive a word-searchable CD with form pleadings and memoranda expanding on the speakers’ topics. If you register before August 15, we’ll guarantee the price even if it gets raised for the July bar passers and later registrants!

There also will be a ceremony admitting attorneys to practice in federal court coordinated with this program on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at approximately 3:45 p.m. in the U.S. Courthouse for all those who have been admitted to the state bar and meet requirements for admission to the bar of the District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. This is a separate ceremony which is processed by the United States District Court Clerk’s Office (313-234-5005) with a separate admission fee of $226.00 payable to the Clerk, United States District Court.
