This is a meeting for any chapter member interested in participating (or even possibly participating with the pro bono committee)
One mission of our chapter of the FBA is to elevate the practice of law within our district. There are ways in which we can assist our Court in the allocation of justice for all and one of them is by joining the Pro Bono Committee and listserv.
Have you ever:
1. Wanted to serve as a pro bono attorney but simply couldn’t find the time to manage the entire file? Now, thanks to a change to Local Rule 83.25 Attorney Appearance, you can appear on a limited basis solely to take a critical deposition, draft a significant motion, argue at hearing, and much more. See the rule: http://www.mied.uscourts.gov/altindex.cfm?pagefunction=localRuleView&lrnumber=LR83.25
2. Thought about being a mediator, but don’t know how to get started/get experience?
out more about the opportunities available to provide needed service in one or both areas by signing up for our pro bono committee. The committee meets the third Tuesday at noon every other month (2022: Nov 15; 2023: Jan 17, Mar 21, May 16, July 18, Sep 19, Nov 21).
We are looking for people who are:
1. Interested in helping to organize the effort and also
2. To join the effort (i.e. serving as pro bono counsel and/or as a mediator in a prisoner mediation case).
By signing up for the committee, you are not agreeing to take a case. You are simply indicating your willingness to help organize and/or join the effort.
Training will be provided! To sign up, email: fbamich@fbamich.org (Subj: Pro Bono Committee).
